Why come to Westchester County?
Today, Westchester County is known as one of the most affluent communities in the U.S. In fact, it is the address of choice for many of the most famous names in the society pages. But living in Westchester is not just for the rich and famous. People come here for its proximity to New York City, its elegant country atmosphere and its beautiful scenery.
The Hudson River shoreline is dotted with picturesque communities with delightful names like Croton-on-Hudson, Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. Westchester County is home to excellent sailing opportunities, first-class golf courses, museums, antique stores, and so much more. Residents can choose city living in White Plains, suburban neighborhoods in Katonah, or lakeside living in historic Yorktown.
The Hudson River shoreline is also home to some magnificent mansions built by America’s aristocracy during the last 200 years: Kykuit in Sleepy Hollow, home to four generations of Rockefellers; and Lyndhurst Castle, constructed in 1838 in Tarrytown as a ‘country villa’ for prominent New York politician William Paulding, are just two of many such estates.
Westchester is rich in history, as evidenced by places like Van Cortlandt Manor and Phillipsburg Manor. These historic, living attractions allow you to tour a 300-year old manor house and be transported back in time as you experience their life with touch, taste and smell. With hands-on tours and guides in period costume, you’ll feel as if you’ve entered a history book. The feeling is truly unforgettable.
Westchester County is full of historic gems like these that make living here unique and exciting. Whether they purchase an apartment for rent or a country colonial, anyone living in Westchester will tell you : Life is good.
